“I love singing with the Brooklynite choir—they are such a vibrant bunch! Charlie, our director, brings her phenomenal energy to every rehearsal so that it never feels like… a rehearsal! Each time, I leave feeling high with energy!”

– LAURE SINNHUBER-GILES, MIDWIFE

You don’t have to be a hipster, but you will end up moving your hips.

Our second adult choir, started in 2015, Brooklynite is the lively younger sibling to Britpop Choir—basically all the attitude with none of the accent.

Close-knit, cheerful and, we admit, a little kooky, we’re a group of people who like nothing more on a school night than to sing our hearts out, laugh a lot, sing some more. They’re songs you know—from pop to rock to indie, Prince to Sia to Death Cab for Cutie—and, let’s face it, can’t get out of your head. But it’s not about the song so much as the sound—the big, beautiful sound—and the chance to make it together.

You don’t have to read music, just really love it. You definitely don’t have to be a pro. And you don’t even have to be from Brooklyn, as long as you’re able to find Gowanus. (But you do have to be 18, just because.)

*Note: We generally follow the Department of Education Calendar and pause choir rehearsals when public schools are not in session or closed to honor holidays. Public Schools are closed on May 27th as it is Eid al-Adha. We ARE going to have rehearsal on this day because it is so close to the performance. However, if you observe and won't be at choir, please let us know before signing up and we will send you a credit for the session. Also, April 1st (while technically not a DOE holiday) is the first night of Passover. If you celebrate and won’t be at choir, feel free to reach out for a credit before signing up.

Cycle Fee: $308 ($22 per session). This can be paid in up to six installments.

Financial aid is available; please contact us for more info

Ability Level: All - no audition needed. Our choir members range from professionals to beginners and everyone in between.

Teaching Method: Our approach focuses on ‘learning by ear’ so we typically don’t use sheet music (we provide lyric sheets). Check out our FAQs for more info on this. If you are a die-hard sheet music singer consider joining Manhattanite Choir as they incorporate notation in their rehearsals.

Participants: Maximum 55 people.
